Bloodbath at NIPSS: Gunmen Slaughter Soldiers and Police in Shocking Attack!

A tragic security incident unfolded at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Kuru, Plateau State, on Monday night, when suspected gunmen launched an attack on the institution's staff quarters. The assault resulted in the deaths of two soldiers and a police officer who were on duty at the time.

Dr. Osime Samuel, the Head of Public Affairs at NIPSS, officially confirmed the incident in a statement released on Tuesday. He acknowledged that a "security incident occurred in the vicinity of the Institute in the early hours of today," without immediately providing specific details on the casualties or the circumstances surrounding the attack. Samuel emphasized that the situation was quickly brought under control due to the prompt intervention of security personnel, assuring the public that there was no lingering threat to the safety of participants, staff, residents, or the facilities of the Institute, and that normal activities had resumed as scheduled.

However, further details gathered from sources by Daily Trust revealed that the gunmen specifically targeted the residences of Barrister Nima Salman-Mann, the Acting Director of Studies, and Professor Haruna Dabin, a Directing Staff member. It was reported that these targeted staff had, on the preceding Saturday, found handwritten notes affixed to their doors, each demanding significant sums: $100,000 and N15 million. This extortion attempt had been promptly reported to the institute's management.

According to an anonymous source, the fatal casualties among the security personnel occurred during a fierce exchange of gunfire with the attackers. The source explained the security protocol at the staff quarters, noting that local security guards operate during the day, while soldiers and police officers are deployed at night. It is believed that the assailants specifically targeted the homes of the staff from whom they had demanded money.

The management of NIPSS reiterated its commitment to the safety and security of all members of the Institute community and has announced that security agencies have initiated a comprehensive investigation to ascertain the full circumstances of the incident. The Institute pledged to provide verified information as it becomes available and urged the public and media to rely solely on official communications from NIPSS and relevant security authorities. The bodies of the deceased security personnel have since been deposited at the mortuary, marking a somber conclusion to a night of violence.
