Over the past three years, Amazon MGM's catalog of blockbusters has been growing from strength to strength. From -led and -directed action flicks and to viral hits like , the newly merged production company are behind some of the most talked-about movies of the 2020s so far. Although they boast just 15 movies to date, all are worthy of merit, making it even more impressive when learning that and 's hotly anticipated sequel, , has officially become the company's third highest-grossing movie at the US box office.

This brand-new milestone comes after another relatively strong weekend at the domestic box office, with the sequel taking home $6.7 million from 3,402 theaters nationwide and finishing fourth in the overall weekend box office rankings. The film has now also officially , making the possibility of a financial success appear closer on the horizon. Still, the film is unlikely to hit the heights of its predecessor, with , which was released nearly a decade ago, still one of the only profitable projects in Affleck's catalog in recent memory.

In total, , split between $53 million at the domestic box office and $31.1 million from overseas markets. This domestic total has seen the film earn just enough to pass 2023's on the aforementioned list and enter third place, with just two other projects standing in the way of it becoming Amazon MGM's most fruitful venture to date. Alas, if the $66 million of The Beekeeper feels unlikely to match, the nigh-on $100 million domestic total of the big-budget Christmas flick is a gap much too far to bridge.

Although the sequel might be struggling to prove a financial success, there's no doubt that the movie has been a hit with both audiences and critics. On review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, the sequel has achieved a , with a strong "certified fresh" 76% critics rating for good measure. This is considerably superior to the original movie's 77% from audiences, and a huge 39% higher than the 53% disappointment from critics its older sibling achieved. In his review of the movie for Collider, awarded The Accountant 2 an 8/10, saying, "After the whole DCEU debacle, Affleck needed a good, quality, franchise. With The Accountant 2, he has finally gotten that. Between this and , it truly feels like hang-out action movies are back. And we're all the better for it."

The Accountant 2 is in theaters now. Make sure to stay tuned to Collider for more updates on the latest movies.
