Believers Gather in Emotional Tribute: Apostle Safo Kantanka's 40th-Day Rites Observed!

Scores of mourners gathered in solemn remembrance and deep reverence at the University of Ghana Sports Complex Park to mark the 40th day commemoration of the late Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka. The revered industrialist, spiritual leader, inventor, and philanthropist passed away on 11th September 2025 at the age of 77. This significant commemorative event drew attendees from across Ghana and abroad, uniting them in collective mourning and celebration of a life that profoundly shaped the nation’s spiritual and technological identity.
The ceremony, which commenced at 8:00 a.m. and continued through to 6:00 p.m., was steeped in tradition and reflection, featuring prayers, hymns, and heartfelt tributes. All attendees adhered to the family’s request, dressing in red and black to signify the depth of national mourning and respect for a man widely considered a national treasure. A particularly poignant moment occurred at the start of the ceremony when a symbolic rainbow appeared in the skies over Accra. Members of the Kristo Asafo Mission interpreted this as a heavenly sign of Apostle Safo's enduring presence and blessing over the day’s solemn observance.
Among the notable figures present was Former President John Agyekum Kufuor, who joined in paying his respects. Also in attendance were Sarah Adwoa Safo Esq., former MP for Dome-Kwabenya, and her siblings, alongside members of the Aduana family of Essumangya and Asantemanso, and senior figures from the Kristo Asafo Mission of Ghana. Their presence highlighted the widespread impact and national recognition of Apostle Safo's pioneering work, which earned him admiration across political, religious, and traditional divides.
Affectionately known as the “Star of Africa,” Apostle Safo is remembered not just as the founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission of Ghana but as a visionary whose groundbreaking innovations and unyielding belief in African self-reliance inspired generations. He founded the Kantanka Group of Companies, through which he designed and manufactured Ghana-made vehicles and machinery, including the celebrated Kantanka Omama SUV and Onantefo pickup truck. Beyond his technological feats, Apostle Safo also championed advanced agricultural methods and nurtured homegrown scientific talent, consistently challenging the narrative that Africa must always look abroad for solutions.
His belief in harnessing local potential led to the establishment of institutions and platforms that promoted African-made solutions to African problems, proving through action that homegrown ingenuity could match and even surpass imported technologies. His annual scientific exhibitions and tech expos, coupled with his philanthropic efforts in education and health, cemented his reputation as a man ahead of his time – a bridge between tradition and modernity, faith and science. Under his stewardship, the Kristo Asafo Mission grew into a powerful religious and social movement, instilling in its members values of discipline, unity, and innovation rooted in faith.
As Ghanaians gathered to commemorate 40 days since his passing, the atmosphere was one of both grief and gratitude. While the nation mourns the loss of a patriarch whose influence touched every facet of Ghanaian life, it also celebrates a life well-lived – one that brought dignity, pride, and progress to the Ghanaian and African identity. Though his earthly journey has ended, the memory and mission of Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka endure, continuing to inspire future generations to pursue excellence, self-reliance, and service to humanity.
