Becky G Electrifies NYC, Closes World Mental Health Festival with Uplifting Performance

Billboard editors have recently highlighted a series of uplifting and significant moments within the Latin music world, showcasing a diverse range of achievements from personal advocacy to industry-wide recognition and community building. These events collectively underscore the vibrant evolution and growing influence of Latin artists and professionals.

One prominent highlight featured Mexican American superstar Becky G, who delivered a powerful closing address at Project Healthy Minds’ World Mental Health Day Festival in New York on Saturday, October 10, 2026. During an intimate conversation moderated by NBC News correspondent Morgan Radford, Becky G spoke candidly about crucial themes of identity, creativity, and mental health. She reflected on her journey of growing up in the public eye, the importance of safeguarding her personal peace, and her process of telling her story on her own terms. Becky G emphasized her preference for being a "real model" rather than a traditional "role model," acknowledging that perfection is not attainable and that continuous learning and growth are part of the human experience. Her heartfelt discussion also touched upon the transformative power of therapy, the support of her family, and her personal healing journey, culminating in her powerful statement: "I had to become the person that I needed most, and that’s when Becky G came to be." This insightful event preceded her scheduled appearance at Billboard’s Latin Music Week for a Superstar Q&A.

Further reinforcing efforts to foster talent and community, BMI has taken a commendable step to champion women songwriters in Música Mexicana, a genre historically dominated by male artists. Lilibeth Patron, BMI’s associate director of creative for Latin, articulated the critical importance of supporting women creatives who are actively shaping the genre's future. The "Las Compositoras+" initiative was launched to cultivate a dedicated space for connection and collaboration among these artists. Led by acclaimed singer-songwriter Erika Vidrio, the four-day retreat, announced on September 30, 2026, and held earlier in October in Los Angeles, brought together a talented cohort including Damaris Bojor, Lorena Cabral, Tania Dominguez, Poe Leos, MXKA, Marián Oviedo, Jacqie Rivera, and Adriana Ríos. The camp commenced at the Fender offices before moving to a Bel Air residence, where participants spent several days collaboratively developing new music for potential placements, marking a significant stride in empowering women within Música Mexicana.

In a major acknowledgment of his far-reaching contributions to Latin music and culture, Lin-Manuel Miranda is slated to receive the prestigious 2026 iHeartRadio Corazón Latino Award. The award ceremony will be a centerpiece of iHeartRadio Fiesta Latina, scheduled for Saturday, October 17, 2026, at Miami’s Kaseya Center. The concert event, hosted by Enrique Santos and Dayanara Torres, will feature an impressive lineup of performers, including Anuel AA, Myke Towers, Farruko, Manuel Turizo, Eladio Carrión, FloyyMenor, Greeicy, Alleh, and Rey Tony y Helabusador “Los Titi.” The celebration will commence with a free kickoff party on October 15 at Miami Design District, where Tony Succar’s “Unity: The Latin Tribute to Michael Jackson” will be performed, featuring special guests such as Anthony Ramos, Leslie Grace, and Howie D of the Backstreet Boys. The main event will be broadcast across iHeartRadio’s Latin stations nationwide.

Lastly, the Latin Recording Academy revealed its 2026 Leading Ladies of Entertainment honorees on October 6, celebrating four exceptional women whose work has profoundly influenced Latin music and the broader entertainment landscape. This 10th-anniversary class recognizes outstanding achievements in executive leadership, digital innovation, music production, and artistry. The distinguished honorees are María Fernández, Chief Operating Officer of Sony Music Entertainment Latin Iberia; Sandra Jiménez, YouTube’s Regional Director and Head of Music for Latin America and U.S. Latin; Salomé Limón, a five-time Latin Grammy-winning producer, composer, and engineer; and María Rosa García “Niña Pastori,” a six-time Latin Grammy winner and Grammy nominee. These trailblazing women will be celebrated during Latin Grammy Week in Las Vegas, with Amazon Music returning as the presenting sponsor for the third consecutive year. Furthermore, they will contribute to nurturing the next generation of women leaders through the Latin Grammy Cultural Foundation’s Leading Ladies of Entertainment Mentorship Program.
