Beach Boys Tour Dates Shifted as Mike Love Prioritizes Rest and Recovery

The iconic American rock band, The Beach Boys, has announced a temporary halt to their scheduled summer 2026 tour. This decision was made to provide their lead singer, Mike Love, with essential time to “recharge” and allow the veteran group to recuperate before resuming their performances. The announcement, shared via Love's Instagram page, detailed that the break is intended to ensure the band is well-rested for their return to the road in the fall.

At 85 years old, Love, who remains the sole original member actively touring with the band, expressed the band's gratitude to their fans. He noted, “Playing for you is the highlight of our summer every year — especially as we celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States while saluting the 60th Anniversary of Pet Sounds.” He added that to maintain “good vibrations,” a short break was necessary before returning in September. The postponement affects six weeks of shows, encompassing nearly 30 gigs, commencing from July 23 and extending through a planned September 3 performance in Pueblo, Colorado. Notably, the announcement came just as the band was slated to perform at Virginia’s legendary Wolf Trap on Thursday night, July 23.

Fans holding tickets for the postponed performances are advised that their tickets will be honored once the band resumes its tour in September. For specific information regarding their tickets, attendees are encouraged to contact their respective local box offices. Love concluded his statement with a hopeful message, “Thanks for your love — we can’t wait to see you back out there for a September to Remember.”

The band's current touring lineup has seen significant changes over the years. Following the retirement of longtime vocalist and keyboardist Bruce Johnston, 83, earlier this year after more than six decades with the group, Mike Love now stands as the only original-era member consistently performing. Co-founder singer and rhythm guitarist Al Jardine had ceased touring with the Love-led iteration of The Beach Boys back in 2012.

Recent reports have also highlighted concerns regarding Mike Love's health. A review from Slate of the band’s May 30 show at the State Theatre in New Brunswick, New Jersey, described Love as appearing “sallow and enfeebled.” The review further detailed his physical condition, noting his legs were “stiff” and his “arms flat by his side,” with his once resonant tenor reportedly “reduced to a whisper, all warbled, strange, and barely there” when he sang. Prior to this tour pause, The Beach Boys had canceled a series of shows due to an unspecified illness Love was suffering from, eventually resuming their tour on June 14.
