Barcelona Blow: Pedri Sidelined for Crucial Chelsea Showdown Due to Injury

Barcelona has officially confirmed a major setback as midfield maestro Pedri suffers a muscle injury expected to rule him out for several weeks. The 22-year-old sustained damage to the distal biceps femoris in his left thigh, an issue that could significantly impact Barcelona’s form in both domestic and European competitions.

In a statement released by the club, Barcelona noted that Pedri’s “recovery will determine his availability,” opting not to disclose an exact return date. The injury follows his recent start in the El Clásico against Real Madrid, where his performance was below his usual standard and ended prematurely with a red card after a rash challenge on Aurelien Tchouameni.

While it remains uncertain whether Pedri was carrying an existing strain during that game or sustained the injury in subsequent training sessions, Dario AS journalist Javi Miguel reported that the prognosis is “very bad,” estimating a recovery time of six to seven weeks. This would sideline Pedri for at least eight key fixtures, including the upcoming Champions League showdown against Chelsea and a crucial LaLiga clash with Atletico Madrid in December fixtures likely to shape Barcelona’s season trajectory.

Despite the blow, there is some optimism within the Catalan camp. Striker Robert Lewandowski is expected to return to full fitness ahead of the weekend’s league encounter with Elche, offering a much-needed attacking boost. Meanwhile, first-choice goalkeeper Joan Garcia is also nearing a comeback, strengthening the squad’s depth ahead of a demanding run of fixtures.

As Barcelona battles for stability under mounting injury challenges, Pedri’s absence underscores the team’s growing reliance on its young core and the urgent need for depth as the season enters a decisive stretch.
