Celebrated on April 30, Akshaya Tritiya is an auspicious Hindu festival considered to bring good fortune and is associated with making progress and investments, especially purchasing gold. It is considered a highly auspicious day for new beginnings and investments. People believe it brings prosperity and good fortune, especially if they purchase gold. The auspicious festival falls on the third day of the bright half (Shukla Paksha) of the Hindu month of Vaisakha.
Basava Jayanti marks the birth anniversary of the 12th-century philosopher and social reformer Basavanna, a prominent figure in the Lingayat tradition. The festival is celebrated to observe his teachings on social equality and human rights. Basava Jayanti is primarily observed in Karnataka, with some observance in Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana.
According to the Reserve Bank of India's holiday calendar 2025, banks are shut on May 1, 2025, on account of Maharashtra Din/May Day (Labour Day). Banks will remain closed in Belapur, Bengaluru, Chennai, Guwahati, Hyderabad (Andhra Pradesh & Telangana), Imphal, Kochi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Nagpur, Panaji, Patna, and Thiruvananthapuram.
