Bad Bunny's 'El Chavo del Ocho' SNL Tribute Electrifies Fans

Global music sensation Bad Bunny recently took on the role of host for the season premiere of Saturday Night Live, which aired on Saturday, October 4th. During his multifaceted performance, the Puerto Rican artist notably revived one of Latin American television's most iconic shows, El Chavo del Ocho. This beloved 1970s program, created by the late Roberto Gómez Bolaños, saw a heartfelt tribute in a skit where Bad Bunny portrayed Quico, the famously spoiled and arrogant son of Doña Florinda.
The over three-minute-long sketch, far from a mockery, was a sincere homage to the original family-friendly comedy. It brought to life the mischievous neighborhood children, including El Chavo (played by Marcello Hernandez) and La Chilindrina (Sarah Sherman), alongside Quico (Bad Bunny). Other memorable characters featured were the grumpy dad Don Ramon (Andrew Dismuke), the overprotective mother Doña Florinda (Chloe Fineman), and the pesky landlord Sr. Barriga, or Mr. Stomach (Kenan Thompson). A special surprise appearance by Jon Hamm as Profesor Jirafales further delighted audiences, recreating the timeless essence of the show centered around an 8-year-old orphan living in a Mexican neighborhood courtyard.
Bad Bunny's hosting stint on SNL comes shortly after the significant announcement that he will headline the 2026 Super Bowl halftime show. Presented by Apple Music and executive produced by Roc Nation and Jesse Collins, the highly anticipated event is scheduled for February 8th in Santa Clara, California. During his opening monologue, Bad Bunny expressed his excitement, first in English and then in Spanish, stating, “I’m very excited to be doing the Super Bowl and I know that people around the world who love my music are also happy. Especially all Latinos around the world, and here in the United States, all the people who have worked to open doors. More than just my achievement, it’s everyone’s achievement, demonstrating that our mark and contribution in this country can never be removed or erased.” He concluded with a playful jab at his detractors, remarking in English, “If you didn’t understand what I said, you have four months to learn.”
