The Hollywood film is based on a bestselling fantasy novel by Nigerian-American novelist Tomi Adeyemi.

In a recent interview on CBS Mornings, Starr said transitioning from music to acting has been an “amazing experience” that required her to be disciplined.

Starr said being on set made her realise how demanding acting can be, adding that she respects actors so much more now.

The ‘Rush’ hitmaker said acting had always been an interest of hers, even though she initially felt shy about pursuing it.

“It’s my first movie ever. I’m used to being a singer and a diva on set, but with the movie, it is not about you,” she said.

“I have to be on set on time. Everything made me get used to military time and being on set and working hard. I respect actors so much more now. Their stamina is impeccable.

“Acting is something I’ve always wanted to do. Obviously, I love music, but I’ve always loved the arts in general. I’ve always been shy when it comes to acting and this is the first time in my life that I’ve been on camera, and I’m not singing and just acting.

“Acting has been amazing. I’ve learned so much from everybody on set, not just the greats but the 16-year-olds and 14-year-olds on set. It was so inspiring watching them.”

Paramount Pictures is scheduled to release the film in the United States in January 2027.

The movie cast includes Damson Idris, Tosin Cole, Cynthia Erivo, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Lashana Lynch, Idris Elba, and Viola Davis.

Others are Thuso Mbedu, Amandla Stenberg, Richard Mofe-Damijo, Pamilerin Ayodeji, and British-Nigerian basketball player Temi Fagbenle.

Born Oyinkansola Aderibigbe, Ayra Starr became a viral sensation after releasing her hit track ‘Bloody Samaritan’ in 2021.

Under the music producer Don Jazzy’s Mavin Records, the songstress has gained popularity in the industry.

She also earned a plethora of awards and nominations for her craft.
