ARCON DG expresses concern over unverified adverts on social media platforms

Director General Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON), Olalekan Fadolapo, has expressed worries over continuous unverified advertisements on the social media platforms

Speaking during a recent media parley in Lagos, Fadolapo observed that the spate of misinformation, disinformation, unsubstantiated claims and unverified promises with bogus claims are worrisome.

To him, many people have been duped. Even some educated people fail victim. Nigerians lost trillions of naira to CEBEX.

These adverts types, he noted, “would never pass through the traditional media. But they find their way online and that is the reason we just can’t fold our hands and allow this to continue.”

With respect to the recent court judgment, he assured, “ARCON would continue to ensure that all advertising, advertisements and marketing communications directed at Nigerians are legal, honest, truthful, decent and socially responsible.”
