Angola Ignites Business Travel: Landmark Deal with ICCA to Boost Tourism
Angola has officially embarked on a strategic partnership with the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA), marking a significant step towards boosting the nation's global presence as a premier destination for business tourism. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was formally signed on Wednesday in Luanda, solidifying a commitment to internationally promote Angola under the new initiative, "Angola Convention Bureau - Meet in Angola: The Meeting Room in Africa."
The pivotal agreement was inked by Allícia Santos, Director-General of the Institute for Tourism Development (INFOTUR), and Senthil Gopinath Srinivasan, Executive Director of ICCA. ICCA stands as a globally recognized leader in the meetings and events industry, boasting a formidable presence across 108 countries, making it an ideal partner for Angola's ambitious tourism goals.
This long-term cooperation is specifically designed to foster the robust development of business tourism, commonly known as MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions). A crucial component of this partnership involves comprehensive training for professionals engaged in event organization, ensuring a high standard of local expertise and service delivery within the sector.
A primary objective of the MoU is to leverage ICCA's extensive global platform to strategically position Angola as a highly competitive and attractive destination within the international market for congresses, conferences, and various corporate events. This enhanced visibility is expected to significantly draw the attention of international associations, companies, and investors, thereby expanding Angola's share in the global business tourism landscape.
Beyond promotion, the initiative is deeply committed to capacity building through targeted training programs, knowledge transfer, and technical support. These efforts are geared towards strengthening local skills in all facets of event management and organization, cultivating a self-sufficient and skilled workforce capable of handling large-scale international events.
Furthermore, the agreement is set to play a vital role in advancing the national tourism brand, "Rhythms of Angola." This branding strategy aims to powerfully reinforce the country's unique identity on the international stage, highlighting its rich cultural diversity, genuine authenticity, and substantial potential as both a business and leisure destination. By doing so, it integrates business tourism seamlessly into the broader national tourism narrative.
Ultimately, this memorandum of understanding significantly reinforces Angola's overarching economic diversification strategy. By specifically focusing on business tourism as one of the national economy's burgeoning sectors, Angola aims to reduce its reliance on traditional industries and build a more resilient and varied economic foundation.
