Veteran Sri Lankan all-rounder Angelo Mathews has announced his retirement from Test cricket, with his final appearance scheduled for the first Test against Bangladesh in Galle from June 17 to 21. Mathews, aged 37, stated his decision is aimed at allowing younger talent to emerge in the traditional format, though he will continue to participate in white-ball cricket for Sri Lanka.

Since his Test debut in 2009, Mathews has played in 118 Tests, amassing 8167 runs, which ranks as the third-highest in Sri Lanka's cricketing history, trailing only Kumar Sangakkara (12,400) and Mahela Jayawardene (11,814). His career average stands at 44.62, with 16 centuries and 45 half-centuries, his highest score being an unbeaten 200. Additionally, he has taken 34 wickets.
