Bangladesh Tribunal Indicts Hasina

A special tribunal in Bangladesh, on Thursday, July 10, 2025, formally indicted deposed premier Sheikh Hasina in absentia. The indictment stems from charges of crimes against humanity, specifically in connection with a deadly crackdown on protesters during the July-August uprising that occurred last year. The International Crimes Tribunal of Bangladesh (ICT-BD) has subsequently set August 3 as the date for the commencement of the trial.

A prosecution lawyer confirmed to reporters that the tribunal has "framed the charge against her (Hasina) alongside the Home Minister of her regime Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and (the then) Inspector General of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun." The ICT bench, which is headed by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mozumder, issued this order after a thorough review and rejection of a defence plea that sought to dismiss the charges. The other two esteemed members of the tribunal who were part of this decision are Justices Md Shofiul Alam Mahmood and Md Mohitul Haq Enam Chowdhury.
