Fabian Perfler: “After finishing high school in Innsbruck, Austria, I moved to Germany to connect with other people. I worked for four years as a photographic assistant to several fashion photographers, which allowed me to fund my own projects, such as traveling and collecting cameras.
In 2013, I experienced a mental breakdown for reasons still unknown. As a result, I was unable to work properly for years and had to undergo rehabilitation to find my way back. After years of taking medication and undergoing electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), I am grateful to be on a better path again.
My rehabilitation journey also included a period of homelessness, as I was living in a different reality—communicating in numbers, among other things. I am deeply grateful to the people who accepted me as I was and who see me now for who I am. I’m also thankful for those who helped me survive over the years despite my experimental lifestyle. Even in the “good years,” I may have been a bit overwhelming to some, but I never felt uncomfortable with my connections.
When it comes to photography and drawing, I’ve gone through different creative phases, exploring various interests. I’m still in the process of finding my own distinct style.”
