AliExpress, the global retail e-commerce platform of Alibaba (9988), is reportedly aiming to expand its local currency payment support in the African market next month.

The platform will accept currencies from countries such as Egypt, Algeria, Morocco, Ethiopia, Tanzania, South Africa and Uganda starting in February, mainland media reported.

AliExpress began supporting mobile payment methods like Kenya’s M-Pesa and Nigeria’s Opay and Verve cards last year.
