The incumbent President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Mr. Albert Kwabena Dwumfuor has been re-elected as the President of the Ghana’s inky fraternity.

Mr Dwumfour garnered 445 votes, representing 64.49% of the total valid ballots cast.

Dwumfuor’s decisive win over his closest challenger, Mr. Charles Yao Mawusi, who polled 245 votes (35.51%), underscores the confidence and trust that members of the association have reposed in the incumbent president’s leadership.

The election, which witnessed a strong turnout of over 800 accredited members across the country, was marked by a keenly contested battle for leadership.

Mr. Mawusi, despite being a late entrant into the election’s campaign injected a renewed sense of vigor and excitement into the contest, forcing Dwumfuor to recalibrate his strategy and secure fresh endorsements to maintain his footing.

In addition to Dwumfuor’s re-election, other key positions were filled, with Ms. Rebecca Ekpe of the national’s broadcaster, the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation emerging as the new Vice President, succeeding Ghana News Agency’s Linda Asante.

Ms. Ekpe defeated Mary Mensah of the Graphic Communications Group, a former PRO of the association in a closely contested battle.

However, for the position of Organising Secretary, Mr. Suleiman Mustapha, from the Graphic Communications Group, beat his opponent, a for chairman of the eastern region chapter of the association Maxwell Kudakor to win the vacant position.

Mr.  Zadok Kwame Gyesi also of the Graphic Communications group clinched the Public Affairs Officer position. While Mr Dominic Hlordzi won the General Secretaryship position .

The newly elected executives will serve a three-year term, and expectations are high that they will steer the GJA through critical reforms and advocacy in the evolving media landscape.

Indeed, with 12 candidates vying for six national executive roles and 49 others competing for regional offices, the election cycle was marked by a competitive and widely participated contest.

The newly leadership of the inky profession will be expected to drive the association’s agenda, promoting the interests of journalists and the media industry in Ghana.
