Akume remains SGF- Presidency
The Presidency has debunked reports circulating that the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, (SGF), Senator George Akume, has been replaced by the Special Adviser to the President on Policy and Coordination, Hadiza Bala Usman.
Newspapers have been awash with reports (not TheGuardian) that the current SGF, Senator George Akume, has been appointed Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, to replace Abdullahi Umar Ganduje
Reacting to the report, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, in a four-paragraph statement, titled “Akume remains SGF, “described the trending report as fake and advised the public to disregard it.
“There has been no change in the status of His Excellency, Senator George Akume, as Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, currently in Saint Lucia, has not made any new appointments.
“The information circulating about Akume’s replacement is untrue. Agents of mischief fabricated it., “The Presidency advises Nigerians to disregard the fake news,” the statement read.
It would be recalled that Deputy National Chairman, North, of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Ali Bukar Dalori, has replaced Abdullahi Ganduje as the National Chairman of the party.
This followed the resignation of ex-Kano governor Ganduje as the party chairman on Thursday. “His resignation, which is effective immediately, was offered to enable him to attend to urgent and important personal matters,” APC spokesman Felix Morka said in a statement.
“In his letter of resignation addressed to the National Working Committee (NWC) through the National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru, Ganduje expressed gratitude to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Bola Tinubu, for the opportunity to serve the party at the highest level.”
