Airlink Unlocks New Zimbabwe Gateway with Inaugural Lanseria-Harare Flights

Southern Africa's regional aviation landscape is poised for a significant enhancement with Airlink, South Africa's premier regional airline, set to introduce a groundbreaking scheduled service. Commencing on 15 November 2026, this new route will connect Lanseria International Airport (HLA) in Johannesburg's western suburbs with Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport (HRE) in Harare, Zimbabwe's capital. This launch marks a historic first, as no airline has previously offered a scheduled service between Lanseria and Harare, despite the Johannesburg–Harare corridor being one of Southern Africa's busiest international air routes.

This strategic move is celebrated within Africa's travel industry as a clear indication of regional carriers' increasing readiness to leverage secondary airports. By doing so, they are effectively unlocking previously underserved catchment areas and catering to the evolving lifestyles and business requirements of modern travellers. For passengers travelling between these two key cities, the new Airlink service will offer a faster and more convenient alternative to the typically busier O.R. Tambo International Airport.

Airlink will operate the new Lanseria-Harare route three times a week. The airline will deploy its modern 98-seat Embraer E190 aircraft for these flights, featuring a comfortable configuration of 6 Business Class and 92 Economy Class seats. The Embraer E190 is particularly favoured by both business and leisure travellers due to its cabin design, which notably includes no middle seats. This ensures that every passenger enjoys the advantage of either a window or an aisle view, enhancing the overall travel experience.

The flight schedule has been carefully designed to cater to various travel needs. Outbound flights from Lanseria will depart at 07:00 every Monday, Thursday, and Saturday, arriving in Harare at 08:40. Return flights from Harare are scheduled to depart at 17:45 on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, landing back at Lanseria at 19:25. This timetable is ideally suited for same-day business trips, convenient weekend getaways, and seamless integration into multi-destination itineraries.

Until now, all scheduled services between Johannesburg and Harare have exclusively operated out of the larger and more congested O.R. Tambo International Airport.
