AI Startup Resolve AI, Founded by Ex-Splunk Execs, Hits Staggering $1 Billion Valuation

Resolve AI, an innovative startup focused on developing an autonomous site reliability engineer (SRE) tool, has successfully secured a Series A funding round led by Lightspeed Venture Partners. Sources close to the deal indicate a headline valuation of $1 billion for this fresh investment. However, the company's actual blended valuation is understood to be lower due to a multi-tranched investment structure. This modern approach, where investors acquire equity at varying price points – some at the $1 billion valuation and a larger percentage at a lower price – has recently gained traction among highly sought-after AI startups, according to industry investors. The exact size of the funding round was not disclosed, and neither Resolve AI nor Lightspeed provided comments on the matter.
Founded less than two years ago, Resolve AI is spearheaded by a seasoned duo: Spiros Xanthos, a former executive at Splunk, and Mayank Agarwal, who previously served as Splunk's chief architect for observability. Their professional collaboration spans two decades, originating from their graduate studies at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. This isn't their first entrepreneurial venture together; they previously co-founded Omnition, a startup that was subsequently acquired by Splunk in 2019, highlighting their deep experience in the field of software systems.
At its core, Resolve AI aims to revolutionize software system maintenance. Traditionally, human SREs are tasked with the manual troubleshooting and resolution of system failures. Resolve AI's autonomous SRE solution automates this critical process by independently identifying, diagnosing, and resolving production issues in real time. This technological advancement directly addresses a significant and growing challenge faced by companies today. As software systems become increasingly intricate and distributed across various cloud infrastructures, organizations frequently struggle to recruit and retain a sufficient number of skilled SREs to ensure seamless system operation.
By automating these complex tasks, Resolve AI's platform offers substantial benefits, including a reduction in system downtime and lower operational costs. Furthermore, it empowers engineering teams by freeing them from constant firefighting against production issues, allowing them to redirect their focus towards developing new features and driving innovation. The startup's annual recurring revenue (ARR) is currently estimated at approximately $4 million. Prior to this Series A, Resolve AI had successfully raised a $35 million seed round in October of the previous year, with prominent participation from Greylock, World Labs founder Fei-Fei Li, and Google DeepMind scientist Jeff Dean.
In the competitive landscape of AI SRE solutions, Resolve AI faces competition from other emerging players, notably Traversal. Traversal, another AI SRE startup, recently announced its own Series A funding round, securing $48 million, which was led by Kleiner Perkins with additional investment from Sequoia.
