African Mobility Startup Plentywaka Transforms into Treepz for Pan-African Domination

The mobility startup Plentywaka, which recently secured $1.2 million in seed funding and acquired Ghanian mobility company Stabus, has officially announced its rebranding to Treepz, effective immediately. This strategic name change is designed to better align the company's identity with its ambitious Pan-African expansion plans and its overarching vision to establish the largest shared mobility platform across the African continent.
According to Onyeka Akumah, CEO of Treepz Inc., the decision to rebrand followed extensive discussions over six months with various stakeholders, partners, and staff. The primary motivation stemmed from the discovery that the term "WAKA" in "Plentywaka" could carry diverse meanings across different regions of Africa, potentially diverging from the core concept of travel or movement. To foster a globally acceptable name that evokes positive emotions around bus trips, the team opted for "Treepz," pronounced as "Trips."
Akumah further elaborated that the new name, Treepz, is intended to encapsulate all aspects of road travel, whether it involves journeys across cities or within urban centers, providing a "cool vibe" to the entire experience. Accompanying this significant rebranding, Treepz has also unveiled a new company logo. While the name and logo have changed, the company's existing mission statement and its distinctive "black & yellow" brand colors will be preserved for ongoing marketing and branding initiatives.
Despite the rebranding, Treepz will maintain its core service offerings, albeit with updated names to reflect the new brand identity. These services include "daily Treepz" (formerly daily waka), "travel Treepz" (formerly travel waka), and "corporate Treepz" (formerly corporate waka). Onyeka Akumah emphasized that the new name boldly articulates the company's commitment to delivering safe, convenient, and comfortable trips throughout Africa, with an aggressive expansion strategy targeting six new countries within the next two years.
For its existing user base, the transition to the new brand will be seamless. Akumah confirmed that current users will not be required to take any manual action, as the updated Treepz app will automatically force an update, seamlessly integrating them into the enhanced Treepz experience across Africa.
