The National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted Ajayi Crowther University (ACU), Oyo, full accreditation of the institution’s Nursing and eight other courses in five faculties.

In line with Section 10 (1) of the Education (National Minimum Standard and Establishment of institutions) Act CAP E3, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004, which empowers the NUC to lay down minimum academic standards for all academic programmes in Nigerian universities and to accredit such programmes, NUC visited Ajayi Crowther University in October and November 2024 to accredit some academic programmes being run by the University.

NUC’s Acting Director of Accreditation, Abraham Chundusu, announced this in a letter on behalf of the commission’s Executive Secretary, Prof Abdullahi Ribadu.

The NUC stated that it has granted full accreditation to Nursing, Environmental Health Science, Christian Religious Studies, History and International Studies, Music, Performing Arts, Law, Mathematics, and Statistics.

The commission also said it has accredited the Master of Business Administration (MBA) programme at ACU.

Responding to the development, Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof Timothy Adebayo, thanked the NUC for its transparency and effort to develop university education in Nigeria, stating that ACU’s success mirrors a commitment to academic and infrastructural advancement over the years.

He said, “This outcome reflects our commitment to academic excellence and integrity. On behalf of the University Senate and the Governing Council, I thank NUC for its transparent accreditation process. I also commend the staff and our students for making this achievement possible.

“This full accreditation will strengthen our position as a leading institution in the delivery of world-class education and research.”
