No official announcement has been made by BYU.
The BYU Cougars finished 14th in the Big 12 this season with a 13-17 overall record and a 4-14 mark in conference play. This is BYU’s second season in the Big 12 after transitioning from the WCC.
Amber Whiting has been the head coach at BYU for the past three seasons. During her three seasons as the head coach, Whiting has posted a record of 45-51 with all three seasons coming with losing records. This past season, Whiting’s BYU team was 13-17 with a 4-14 record in the Big 12.
While the transition to the Big 12 was always going to be a tough one, BYU was consistent NCAA Tournament team under former head coach Jeff Judkins. They made three-straight NCAA Tournament appearances before joining the Big 12, all under Judkins.
Before being hired as the BYU head coach, Whiting was the head coach at Burley High School in Idaho for four seasons, making her jump from the prep ranks to major college basketball a highly unusual one.
The next question is who will hire Whiting’s replacement? BYU is still searching for an athletic director after current AD Tom Holmoe announced he was retiring in February. BYU has not hired a new athletic director yet.
