A New Lennon Rises: Sean Ono Lennon Welcomes Son Aurelius, Grandchild of Music Legends John & Yoko!
Sean Ono Lennon and Charlotte Kemp Muhl have announced the birth of their first child, a son named Aurelius. The newborn is the first grandchild of Yoko Ono and the late John Lennon, bringing immense joy to the family and prompting congratulations from numerous celebrities.
Sean Ono Lennon, son of legendary Beatle John Lennon and artist Yoko Ono, and his longtime partner Charlotte Kemp Muhl, have announced the birth of their first child, a son named Aurelius. The joyous news was shared by the couple on Tuesday night, September 1, through an Instagram post that quickly garnered well-wishes from friends and fans.
The couple proudly cradled their newborn in a heartwarming Instagram snap, with Sean Ono Lennon captioning the post, "@charlottekempmuhl and I have created a Human Bean! His name is Aurelius. Thank You!" In the photograph, Ono Lennon, clad in a black shirt, black sailor’s cap, and black eyeglasses, stood alongside Muhl, who wore a flowing white top. Their son, Aurelius, slept peacefully in Ono Lennon’s arms, dressed in a black and white striped onesie, symbolizing a new chapter for the family.
This significant arrival marks Aurelius as the first grandchild for Yoko Ono and the late John Lennon, who was tragically murdered in New York on December 8, 1980, when Sean Ono Lennon was just five years old. The birth brings a new generation into the renowned Lennon lineage.
Sean Ono Lennon, 50, shared additional intimate moments, including a photo where he gazes intently into the camera while snuggling with Aurelius. Another snap featured his partner of nearly two decades, Charlotte Kemp Muhl, 39, enjoying some quiet chest-nap time with their "Baby Momma!" as captioned. Muhl, an American-born model and Ono Lennon’s bandmate in The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger, also celebrated the occasion with a series of artistic photographs of her son. These included an image of Aurelius lying on her chest in a Baby Bjorn while she held a small crab, and another of her standing in a lake in a billowing white dress with Aurelius strapped to her. The series concluded with a serene close-up of the baby’s peaceful sleeping face.
Muhl's Instagram caption offered a unique reflection on the experience: "We made a human! Am convinced DNA is agentic alien quaternary code. The sleep deprivation only adds to the surrealism…Burping technique tips welcome. Been playing him Aphex Twin and Stravinsky. Meconium is crazy."
The announcement prompted a flood of congratulatory messages from a host of musicians and actors. Drummer Zak Starkey, son of John Lennon’s Beatles bandmate Ringo Starr, simply wrote "Amazing." Actresses Liv Tyler, Ione Skye, and Bijou Phillips also extended their well-wishes. Elliot Mintz, John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s former publicist, shared a poignant sentiment: "there are some moments in life that are perfect. this is one of them." Punk icon Patti Smith expressed her joy, writing, "Oh Sean I’m so happy for you both," while Dominic Fike conveyed his happiness with a series of heart emojis.
In addition to this personal milestone, Sean Ono Lennon has maintained an active music career. Earlier this year, he released his third studio album, titled "The Great Parrot-Ox and the Golden Egg of Empathy," with his longtime collaborator Les Claypool, as The Claypool Lennon Delirium.
