'We're thrilled to unveil our co-created fashion collection, blending Moncler's luxury with Mercedes-Benz's iconic design, all enhanced by NIGO's creative genius. '
Bettina Fetzer, Vice President Mercedes-Benz Digital & Communications, Mercedes-Benz AG
The special G-Class model, produced in a limited series of only 20 vehicles, is inspired by the one-off art piece Mercedes-Benz Project G-Class Past II Future created by NIGO. The production version is based on the new G 450 d and the new G 550. It has two-tone exterior paintwork in green and grey, the iconic checkered upholstery and a rear-mounted spare wheel with the collaboration logo on its cover. Black exterior accents are applied to the window frames, light metal alloy wheels and the signature bumper guard running the full length of the flanks. More information is available here.
The Collection
Powered by the Moncler Genius platform for co-creation, fashion designer NIGO has created the Mercedes-Benz x Moncler by NIGO collection and the G-Class Past II Future limited-edition vehicle, fusing past design trends with New York hip-hop culture. NIGO is well-versed in archival research for his creations. For this three-pronged co-creation, he was inspired by the rich histories of Moncler, Mercedes-Benz and his lifelong passion for music. In entering the Moncler Genius roster, NIGO has created a personal interpretation of the Moncler universe, further strengthened by the instantly recognizable iconography of Mercedes-Benz.
The collection is a fusion of the quintessential mountain-born brand and the renowned automotive brand, accelerated through the eyes of a creator who is accustomed to working as a cultural connector. The gender-neutral designs merge brand signifiers: the G-Class is rendered on prints and embroidery, and photographic outdoor scenes from Moncler's archives are reimagined on new city layers. The line-up has a strong feeling of vintage Americana with varsity jackets, hoodies and checked shirts that match the vehicle's interior. A signature Moncler puffer is adorned with the Mercedes-Benz three-pointed star and a heritage Moncler font adds statement lettering to base layers. The collection will be available in selected Moncler brand stores worldwide, including New York, London, Paris and Beijing. It can also be purchased online at moncler.com.
'I always refer to the past. In Japan, there is a saying that goes: Learn from the past to create something new.'
Fashion designer, music producer and creative director, NIGO
The Brand Campaign: 'Past Forward - Where the past is driven by the future'
The collection is showcased in a series of images captured by photographer Thibaut Grevet. Inspired by New York rooftop parties, the campaign features a cast of models wearing the new collection, gathered as friends in the Mercedes-Benz vehicle, with a NYC water tower in the background. An accompanying documentary film by Theodor Guelat explores NIGO's co-creation process, highlighting how he builds a deeply referential presence – where the future is driven by the past.
