43,830 jobs created in one year, says commissioner
Lagos State government has revealed that about 43,830 direct and indirect job opportunities were created in the last one year under the Sanwo-Olu administration.
The Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, Mr. Akinyemi Ajigbotafe, disclosed this at the ongoing ministerial press briefing to mark the second year of the second term of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
According to him, the ministry partnered with Jobberman specifically to train job seekers with employable skills to fast-track employment opportunities in the state, and ensure the training is focused on agric-tech, digital and creative skills. He said 681 persons benefitted from the training.
Ajigbotafe further said that the ministry established five job centres in the five divisions of the state, where job seekers were trained on soft skills for managerial expectation of jobs from various sectors. He disclosed that 500 unemployed graduates benefited from the training.
The commissioner also said 3,006 unemployed youth were trained in the last two years through various capacity-building and job-readiness initiatives.
Ajigbotafe said the moves were part of the strategic initiatives of the state government to combat poverty and promote economic empowerment.
According to him, his ministry partnered with both local and international bodies to provide employability skills training for over 2,000 graduates, some of whom secured full-time employment after internships.
He announced plans to onboard an additional 5,500 residents under the Nigeria CARES (NG-CARES) programme, with each beneficiary set to receive a monthly stipend of N20,000 and the initiative aligns with the THEMES Plus development agenda of Governor Sanwo-Olu which emphasizes social inclusion, gender equality, youth empowerment, and economic resilience.
