15 Summer Fashion Staples That Could Soar In Price Thanks To The Bill

Denim jorts are still trending, but rising tariffs on denim imports are driving prices up. Brands like Levi’s are shifting production, yet mid-tier denim shorts could jump 15–30% in cost before relief kicks in.

The beauty of flip flops is their affordability. But with footwear tariffs climbing to up to 40%, even your $5 convenience-store pair might double in price. Add in premium slides from brands like Adidas or Nike, many of which are made in Vietnam or China, and you could be looking at $10–$15 hikes per pair.

Straw hats and sun visors are a summer necessity, but most are imported from low cost manufacturing countries. With the new bill, these accessories are facing price hikes of 25% or more. If you’ve been holding out for that floppy beach hat, get it now before it costs as much as your swimsuit.

Lightweight maxis, perfect for beach strolls or resort dinners, are another tariff target. Many affordable ones come from the same regions being hit hardest by the bill. A $40 summer maxi might soon climb to $50 or more, especially if it includes details like embroidery, lace, or imported trims.

Rompers are a one and done outfit dream, but the dream might come at a price this year. From fabric imports to zippers and stitching, nearly every part of the romper supply chain is touched by tariffs. Some fashion brands are already reporting 20–30% cost increases on rompers alone, and those increases are being passed on to customers.

Heading to the pool? Beach? Brunch? Mesh cover ups and sheer dresses are the go to transition piece. But like most affordable summer wear, these are usually manufactured in countries now hit by Trump’s tariffs. That $25 mesh cover up may soon be closer to $35, even at discount retailers.

Athleisure is summer’s low key style staple, but even your cozy gym shorts aren’t safe. These imports are part of the same broad apparel category now facing tariff hikes under OBBBA. Expect modest but noticeable price jumps, especially from foreign owned brands or those heavily reliant on overseas factories.

Those oversized straw or canvas totes? They might be the next surprising casualty. Imported bags, especially those made with jute, straw, or raffia, are getting slapped with new tariffs too. Retailers are warning that prices for simple beach bags could increase by 20% or more in Q3 and Q4 of 2025.

Children’s clothing is one of the hardest-hit categories under this bill. From rompers to sundresses, items imported from Asia are seeing up to 50% in price increases, according to United Way and several child advocacy groups. That adorable $24 Target sundress might now ring up closer to $36.

You’ve seen them on TikTok: vacation ready matching sets in bold prints and breezy fabrics. But here’s the catch: they’re often imported in bulk from China or Turkey. Once tariffs hit, prices for these sets may increase by 30–40%, especially online, where the de minimis exemption is being phased out.
The One Big Beautiful Bill isn’t just a policy shift, it’s a total shake up of how we shop for clothes. Summer style might not disappear, but it will definitely look (and cost) different. If you’re planning your vacation wardrobe or just trying to stay cool in the heat, now’s the time to shop smart and stay stylish, without sticker shock.
