The Harry Potter movies defined a generation, just as the books did. They were released from 2001 to 2011, and they earned $7.7 billion at the box office in the process. The books were already popular before the movies earned widespread attention, but having a massive film series helped to launch them into another stratosphere of popularity.

For all their success, however, they were far from perfect. Warner Bros. is hoping that the upcoming Harry Potter TV show will correct some of the mistakes, but the original movies are set in stone. Regardless of what the show does, the first eight Harry Potter movies continue to have lasting flaws.

When he was first cast as Snape, . He was the first significant character from the Marauders era to be introduced, and he defined their ages. After him, every other character from his era needed to be approximately in their 40s or 50s, leaving little room for a faithful adaptation.

Lily Potter, while close to the Marauders, was not one of them.

In the books, the Marauders were very different. They were only around 20 years old when Harry was born, having recently left Hogwarts to start their own futures. By the time Harry entered the school himself, they would have been in their early 30s, had they all survived. It made the tragedy much greater and truly put into perspective how much Voldemort destroyed. Unfortunately, the movies never bothered to showcase the depth of that tragedy.

As the youngest Weasley sibling, . She was easily overlooked, and often excluded, and she was even controlled by Tom Riddle's diary for a time. She could easily have been a crucial character in the story, especially given her talents. Unfortunately, she was completely wasted.

Barty Crouch Jr. is a major antagonist in Goblet of Fire (2005). His escape from Azkaban gave him the opportunity to disguise himself as Mad-Eye Moody. He became the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, and he actually was a fairly effective teacher. Still, that escape from Azkaban should have had wall-to-wall coverage. Instead, it was never explained.
