Modern EVs also benefit from impressive interior spacing and practicality, due to their more flexible skateboard architectures, consisting of compact motors and flat battery packs, as opposed to bulky conventional engines and transmissions. If you are in the market for an EV that is equal parts spacious and cost-effective to run, these are the best considerations for you to look at.

The Audi Q8 E-Tron is a large EV SUV that doesn't benefit from an expansive interior, but it's still impressively spacious. The German brand claims that the truck holds 28.5 cubic feet worth of cargo, which you can expand to 56.4 cubic feet by folding the seats down.

According to the Edmunds' True Cost To Own Calculator, you can expect to spend a total of $7,075 on maintenance and $3,457 on repairs over five years. You will also likely spend $10,598 to keep it charged throughout this period.

The Volvo EX90 accommodates a total of 103.8 cubic feet of interior space, with the middle and third rows folded down. With all seats in place, it features a 10.9-cubic-foot trunk, which expands to 23.1 cubic feet when folding the rear seats. Folding the middle row expands this to 67.6 cubic feet.

The True Cost To Own calculator reveals that you can expect to spend $7,807 on maintenance, $2,133 on repairs, and $14,936 on energy over five years and 60,000 miles.

With all seats in place, the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV features 23 cubic feet of trunk space, which expands to 74 cubic feet when you fold the rear seats down. Folding the second row of seats down gets you access to 31 cubic feet.

This is admittedly one of the more expensive options to maintain on this list, with Edmunds estimating that you'll spend $9,223 on maintenance, $3,183 on repairs, and $20,148 on electricity. Interestingly, this does not align with the EPA's $900 annual energy cost estimate.

The BMW iX fits 35.5 cubic feet of goods in the trunk with all seats in place, which will expand to 77.9 cubic feet when you fold the rear bench down. This is one of the few models on this list that doesn't have third-row seating, but the entire cabin does accommodate up to 112 cubic feet of volume.

The iX is offered in multiple trims, but you can expect to spend $5,311 on maintenance, $2,938 on repairs, and $10,369 on electricity over five years when operating a base xDrive50 model. On a side note, BMW has updated the iX for the 2026 model and it comes with some neat upgrades.

The Kia EV9's seven-seater interior fits 20.2 cubic feet of space behind the third row. This expands to 43.5 cubic feet when you fold the rear row down and 81.7 cubic feet when you fold the second row. Additionally, you also get access to a compact 3.2 cubic-feet frunk.

Edmunds indicates that this will be one of the cheapest EVs that you can maintain on this list, with a $4,951 maintenance and $7,332 electricity costs over five years and 60,000 miles.

Despite the GMC Hummer EV SUV being one of the largest EVs on this list, you only get the benefit of 81.8 cubic feet of space when folding the rear seats down. Thankfully, the 35.9 cubic feet of cargo space is a lot more generous.

CarEdge's cost calculator reveals that you'll be spending $2,156 on maintenance over five years, as well as $4,360 on electricity.

The Tesla Model X may be one of the more compact SUV options that we feature on this list, but it benefits from an impressive 85 cubic feet of expanded cargo space when folding the middle and rear seats. With all seats in place, you get 15 cubic feet, while folding the third row flat results in 21.5 cubic feet of space. There's also a 6.5 cubic-feet frunk.

According to Edmunds, the Tesla Model X will only cost you $2,739 in maintenance, $2,460 in repairs, and $9,165 in electricity over five years with 60,000 miles covered.

This expands to an impressive 46.7 cubic feet when folding the third row down and 104.7 cubic feet after dropping the middle row. There's also an 11.1-cubic-foot frunk and a five-cubic-foot underfloor compartment.

Both Edmunds and CarEdge fail to provide true ownership cost estimates, citing a lack of current and historical data. We can tell you that the EPA estimates the base model will cost $900 to recharge every year.

The Cadillac Escalade IQ is by far the largest electric vehicle on this list, with the entire cabin laying host to 161.9 cubic feet of interior volume. This includes 24 cubic feet with all three rows of seating in place, excluding the 12 cubic feet of space in the frunk. Folding both the second and third rows increases the usable space to 119.2 cubic-feet of space.

According to CarEdge's ownership cost valuation tool, you can anticipate spending $5,002 on maintenance over five years, as well as $3,915 on electricity.

The recently introduced Lucid Gravity is the most spacious EV SUV you can opt for today, despite not featuring the largest exterior dimensions.
