The fixture was originally scheduled for Sunday, May 18th, 2025, but have now been rescheduled to Friday, May 16th, 2025, with a 7:30pm kick-off.

This change, prompted by Tottenham’s request to allow more preparation time for a potential Europa League final on May 21st, sparking significant backlash from fans, particularly Aston Villa supporters.

Many Villa fans have expressed their frustration on social media, calling the decision as “disgraceful” and accusing the Premier League of showing bias toward the so-called “big six” clubs.

They argue that the rescheduling disrupts Villa’s preparations for a crucial match in their pursuit of Champions League qualification, especially as it’s their final home game of the season, which included planned post-match activities involving players’ families.

Some fans pointed out perceived double standards, noting that Villa were not granted similar accommodations during their Champions League campaign, such as when they played 72 hours before their second leg against PSG.

Fans have also hit out at the Premier League for prioritising Tottenham’s potential European commitments over Villa’s domestic schedule, with some calling it “selfish” and unfair given Villa’s tight fixture list and their fight for a top-five finish.

On the other hand, the decision ensures Tottenham and Manchester United, who face Chelsea on May 16th, will have equal preparation time (five days) for a potential Europa League final, addressing concerns about competitive fairness in European competitions.

Tottenham’s strong position in their Europa League semi-final against Bodo/Glimt, following a 3-1 first-leg win, likely influenced the Premier League’s willingness to accommodate the change.

: The constant pandering to “‘“bigger””’ teams is disappointing but not one bit surprising.

: If this happens the world will know who dictates what happens in our league. People flying in from all over the world and yet they are laying down to their demands. They should just play a weakened team like the other greedy 6 have this weekend. Bravo @premierleague 🖕🏻

: So we play every 4 days in April including 2 champions league games and an FA Cup quarter final, but not allowed to move the fixtures, Spurs on the other hand miraculously get to move a fixture if it suits them? 🤔

: Last season we had to play 4 games in 11 days around the conference league semi’s. This season we requested the Liverpool game be moved and the league rejected it leaving us 3 days been a UCL away game and Liverpool. We should absolutely be taking this corrupt league to court

: Already booked annual leave for the 18th to go, now theres no guarantee I can get the 16th off aswell 🙄

: Not only did they not support us between PSG fixtures, they are moving a fixture at 10 days notice with absolutely no regard for the supporters. Absolute disgrace #avfc

: I hope the club issue a statement outlining our multiple rejected requests this season #avfc

: An absolute disgrace!

:
but we had to play 5 games in 14 days???
fuck the “ big 6”

: Countless times, Villa’s requests for fixture changes have been rejected: CL + notably moving the Liverpool fixture up a month to accommodate their cup ambitions, doing us a disservice. If you don’t want to feed into accusations of “big club bias”, show consistency? Disgraceful

: Rejected our request now given us less then two weeks notice. Disgrace

: Tell me the leagues corrupt without telling me it’s corrupt, absolute motherfuckers the lot of them

: What an utter fucking disgrace. Bodo/Glimt I am BEGGING you to humble these fuckers. I will be tuning in Thursday evening desperate for you to win.

: Disgraceful double standards. Everyone should boo the Premier League ‘anthem’ before kick off and I expect to hear “Premier League, corrupt as fuck” belted out by 40,000

: Blatant favouritism. The absolute BEST thing that can happen now, is for FK Bodø/Glimt to wallop Spurs on Thursday. And the EPL/Spurs need to fully & wholly compensate the club #AVFC and fans’ hotel/travel costs, and wherever fans are no longer able to attend. Around £20m all in.

: The FA are incredible. Can’t make it up. F*ck the fans who have hotels and travel booked. F*ck the fans who didn’t plan on taking time off work that now need to try secure that at short notice. Let’s change a Sunday game to a Friday and screw the fans.

@maddyxfield: Villa hierarchy will be absolutely fuming with this. We got absolutely no help from the PL when we requested fixture changes. Not as if our fixtures are dead rubbers either. Pathetic from the Premier League.

@ip1103: Absolute shit show from @premierleague Villa played 5 in 14 days in feb. It’s evident that certain 6 l mean more than the rest. Final home game of the season which is usually a celebration moved to a Friday night. Bollocks. I don’t care about the team they will field #AVFC

How we could have used some help from the EPL for the Olympiacos tie. We were dead on our feet.

PSG had their game against us moved as well. Again, no support from the EPL.

Sky 6 bias! 😡 https://t.co/NwFyT1J2Mc pic.twitter.com/iCqq2tw3r9

Remember when we asked? No special treatment for the Sky 6 cartel though. Absolute piss take. #AVFC https://t.co/8h6BgcamCA pic.twitter.com/A9EL40ay6S
