Aidan Borland leaves Scotland fans purring after Aston Villa captain leads side to FA Youth Cup glory - Football Scotland

Aidan Borland his hit another major milestone in his remarkable young career by leading his team to FA Youth Cup glory.

The former Celtic youngster captained The Villans to a 3-1 victory over Manchester City on Tuesday night.

It is his second piece of silverware the 18-year-old has won at the club since leaving Glasgow two years ago.

He helped lift the Birmingham Senior Cup via a 9-0 thrashing of Racing Club Warwick last May.

The talented youngster has also racked up 60 appearances for the Villa youth team with seven appearances in the UEFA Youth League.

His talent and leadership skills bodes well for the future of the Scotland national team as Steve Clarke looks to add fresh faces to an aging squad with 18-year-old Hearts striker James Wilson a recent call up.

Borland had both Villa and Scotland fans purring after he made his professional first team debut in the 2-1 EFL Cup win over Wycombe Wanderers last September.

He was compared to Luka Modric by onlookers having replaced £50million man Amadou Onana with 30 minutes or so on the clock.

At the time of signing, academy manager Mark Harrison told Aston Villa’s official website: “Aidan is very dynamic and can manage the ball effectively.

"We are very pleased Aidan has joined us, as we know there was a lot of interest in him.

“The staff are very much looking forward to working with him and helping him develop into a future first-team footballer.”

And it looks like Borland is certainly on his way to becoming a first-team star for Villa now.
