007 Race Intensifies: New Bond Picks Emerge, Writer Revealed for Next Blockbuster!

The iconic James Bondfranchise is currently undergoing a significant transition, with an intense search for the next actor to embody the legendary 007 and a new creative team being assembled to steer its future. Following Daniel Craig's departure after five highly successful films, speculation has been rife regarding who will step into the spy's sophisticated shoes, alongside new details emerging about the vision for the upcoming installments under Amazon's creative control.
Among the long-standing contenders, actor Taron Egerton, widely known for his role in the Kingsman franchise, has recently addressed the persistent rumours linking him to the part. Despite being backed by figures like Roger Moore's son, Geoffrey, Egerton expressed his belief that he "wouldn't be good at" playing Bond. He conveyed to Collider that he feels he is "too messy for that" and that the role would be "wasted" on him, suggesting there are many "cool, younger actors who would be great for it." His experience as a secret agent in Kingsman and his Golden Globe-winning portrayal of Elton John in Rocketman demonstrate his versatility, yet he seems to prefer a different path for his career.

However, new odds from Heart Bingo indicate thatCallum Turner, engaged to pop superstarDua Lipa, has emerged as the current frontrunner for the role. Turner, recognized for his role as Theseus Scamander in the Fantastic Beasts series, reportedly garnered the highest share of positive public sentiment on X regarding his potential casting. Other notable names still in the running include James Norton, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Paul Mescal, Henry Cavill, Jacob Elordi, Harris Dickinson, and Tom Holland. Insiders suggest that the studio is particularly interested in casting a British actor under the age of 30, potentially ruling out some of the older contenders.
Beyond casting, the creative direction of the next James Bond film is also taking shape with the announcement that Steven Knight, the acclaimed creator of the smash-hit series Peaky Blinders, has been signed to write the screenplay. Knight has promised to make the next installment "better, stronger and bolder." This choice is seen as a move to preserve Bond's essential British heritage, a concern for many fans after Amazon's $1 billion acquisition of the franchise. 007 expert Matthew Fieldpraised Amazon's decision to choose Knight, emphasizing his deep understanding of Bond's importance and his extensive experience in film and television.

Steven Knight's journey to becoming a key creative force behind Bond is as compelling as his characters. The youngest of seven children, he was raised in Small Heath, Birmingham, by a blacksmith father and a bookie’s runner mother, experiences that heavily inspired his gangster series Peaky Blinders. Before screenwriting, Knight briefly trained as a blacksmith. His career took a significant turn in the Nineties when he developed the concept for the globally successful game show Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?, which peaked at 19.2 million viewers per episode and was adapted in around 100 countries. This success allowed him the freedom to pursue his passion for writing, leading to critically acclaimed works like SAS: Rogue Heroes and his recognition with a CBE for services to drama.
The creative team for the upcoming 26th James Bond is formidable, with Dune director Denis Villeneuve appointed at the helm, alongside producers David Heyman (known for Harry Potter) and Amy Pascal (Spider-Man). Furthermore, The White Lotus and Euphoria actress Sydney Sweeney is backed by Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos as a strong contender for the next Bond girl. With Amazon now controlling the franchise, the next James Bond movie is anticipated for a 2028 release date, promising a fresh yet reverent reinvention of the beloved spy. Daniel Craig, who made his final appearance as 007 in 2021's No Time To Die, has reflected on his tenure, calling it an immense honor and a significant part of his life.
