007 Casting Frenzy: Brit Stars Tipped for James Bond as Race Heats Up!

The search for the next James Bond continues to generate significant speculation following Daniel Craig's departure from the iconic 007 role in 2021's 'No Time To Die'. Various actors have been linked to the part, with recent developments highlighting new frontrunners and personal stances on the esteemed secret agent position.
One actor consistently mentioned, Taron Egerton, has openly addressed the long-standing rumors. Despite being backed by figures like Roger Moore's son, Geoffrey, as early as 2019, the 35-year-old 'Rocketman' star recently told Collider that he doesn't believe he's a suitable choice. Egerton stated, "I don't think I'm a good choice for it, I think I'm too messy for that." He expressed admiration for Daniel Craig's tenure but felt the role would be "wasted" on him, suggesting there are many cool, younger actors better suited. Egerton has previous spy experience, having starred as Gary "Eggsy" Unwin in the 'Kingsman' film franchise, and recently led the Apple TV+ drama series 'Smoke'.
Shifting focus, British actor Callum Turner has recently emerged as a strong contender, reportedly leading the race to become the next James Bond. According to new odds from Heart Bingo, Turner, known for his role as Theseus Scamander in the 'Fantastic Beasts' series, garnered the highest share of positive public opinion on X regarding his potential casting, with 63% positive posts and 0% negative. Turner, who rose from a working-class background in Hammersmith, is currently engaged to pop superstar Dua Lipa, a relationship that began in 2024. Following Turner in public favor are James Norton, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Paul Mescal, and Henry Cavill. Sarah Caskie, Head of Brand for Heart Bingo, noted the public's clear preference for Turner amidst the ongoing rumor mill, especially with Amazon taking the reins of the franchise.
Another British actor, Mike Dickman, has also found himself unexpectedly linked to the vacant 007 role, admitting he is "flattered" by the mention. The 40-year-old rising star transitioned from a corporate career in the sports industry to acting, quickly building an impressive portfolio. Dickman has had a cameo in 'Barbie', a supporting role in the psychological thriller 'Secrets' (set for release on Amazon on August 19), and a prominent role in the upcoming series 'Gandhi', where he plays the racist Captain Harry Sparks. Bookmakers earlier this year listed him as a surprise frontrunner alongside more established names like Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Tom Hardy, and Henry Cavill. Dickman, who is in a relationship with Heather Mills, expressed humility about being bracketed with such experienced actors and looks forward to the "rebirth of an incredible franchise."
Daniel Craig, 57, concluded his five-film stint as 007 with 'No Time To Die' in 2021, a role he reflected on as an "honor" and an "important part of my life." The studio and producers are reportedly keen on casting a British actor under the age of 30, which could potentially rule out older contenders like Aaron Taylor-Johnson (35) and Henry Cavill (42). Beyond the male lead, speculation also surrounds the next Bond girl, with 'White Lotus' and 'Euphoria' actress Sydney Sweeney, 27, reportedly backed by Amazon boss Jeff Bezos, whose company holds creative control over the blockbuster franchise. Denis Villeneuve, 57, a self-proclaimed "die hard" James Bond fan, has been appointed director, with a 2028 release date anticipated for the 26th installment of the series.
