Zoinks! Scooby-Doo Franchise Gets Radical Reinvention in New Series!

Warner Bros. announced the upcoming Scooby-Doo anime, titled Go Go Mystery Machine, two years ago. This series aims to revive the classic adventures of Shaggy and Scooby-Doo as they explore new locations, forge new friendships, and confront new adversaries. Although the project has been in development, recent updates shed more light on its progress.
Go Go Mystery Machine is slated to follow Shaggy and Scooby-Doo on an "ultimate foodie adventure" to Japan. During their trip, they inadvertently unleash hundreds of mischievous mythical monsters, causing widespread trouble across the country. To combat these creatures and solve the mystery, the duo will be joined by Scooby's uncle, Daisuke-Doo, along with new friends Etsuko and Toshiro.
An update on Go Go Mystery Machine was provided by Warner Bros. Animation president Sam Register during the "Creators x Hollywood" panel, as reported by ComicBook.com. Register offered a promising outlook on the series, stating, "We’ve been doing that with Scooby-Doo. We had Mystery Incorporated, where we had a love triangle between Shaggy and Velma, and Scooby. We’ve done some stranger stuff. I’m currently producing and developing an anime right now. We’re doing stuff in that direction. Every now and then, we get a character that we can stretch and do something new with."
The Scooby-Doo! franchise, which originated in 1969, is renowned for its enduring media presence across TV shows, films, and games. The traditional formula involves the crime-solving group Mystery Incorporated—Fred, Daphne, Velma, Shaggy, and their dog Scooby-Doo—traveling in their Mystery Machine van to solve supernatural mysteries, which inevitably reveal a human culprit behind the chaos.
Beyond Go Go Mystery Machine, other recent and upcoming Scooby-Doo projects include Velma, a spin-off that ran for two seasons and received significant criticism. Additionally, Warner Bros. announced another Japanese-inspired spin-off in January 2026, Scooby-Doo! Gokko, which is expected to debut in 2027 with a chibi art style, similar to Tom & Jerry Gokko. Furthermore, Netflix plans a live-action adaptation starring Mckenna Grace as Daphne Blake, Tanner Hagen as Shaggy Rogers, Abby Ryder Fortson as Velma Dinkley, and Maxwell Jenkins as Fred Jones.
