The Yobe State Government is actively addressing the critical healthcare needs of its citizens by providing over 800 free dialysis sessions monthly to patients suffering from chronic kidney disease (CKD). This vital intervention, facilitated through the Yobe State University Teaching Hospital (YSUTH), significantly eases the substantial financial burden typically associated with accessing such specialised medical treatment.

Prof. Baba Waru Goni, the Chief Medical Director of YSUTH, revealed this crucial progress on Wednesday during the presentation of the hospital’s detailed report to the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Mohammed Goje. Prof. Goni highlighted that this initiative directly reflects Governor Mai Mala Buni’s unwavering commitment to enhancing access to specialised healthcare and ensuring that all patients requiring regular dialysis receive essential treatment without the prohibitive costs that often deter them.

Beyond the free dialysis program, YSUTH also extends its services by providing magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT) scan services at highly affordable rates. These competitively priced services have successfully attracted patients not only from across the entire North-East region but also from other diverse parts of the country, solidifying YSUTH’s position as a regional healthcare hub.

In response to the comprehensive report, SSG Dr. Mohammed Goje lauded the diligent efforts of the hospital’s management and medical personnel for their invaluable contributions to healthcare delivery within the state. He further assured them of the state government’s steadfast and continued support. Goje emphasised that the free dialysis programme serves as a clear demonstration of the administration’s deep-seated commitment to the welfare of its citizens, particularly those with chronic illnesses who are often burdened by the high cost of frequent medical treatment.

The SSG also issued a directive to the hospital management, urging them to diligently sustain the commendable progress already recorded. He underscored the importance of ensuring the effective and efficient use of all available resources, while consistently maintaining the highest professional standards in the delivery of quality healthcare services. Furthermore, Goje called for continuous improvement in operational efficiency and the cultivation of strategic partnerships to further strengthen the hospital’s capacity to provide advanced, specialised medical care to a wider populace.

Concluding his remarks, Dr. Goje unequivocally reaffirmed the Buni administration’s steadfast commitment to strengthening healthcare institutions across Yobe State and expanding access to affordable medical services for all its residents.
