XRP Storms Japan! Rakuten Integration Ignites Sentiment to 2-Year High

The cryptocurrency XRP has captured significant attention following its integration with Rakuten Wallet, a prominent Japanese payment platform. This development has ignited renewed optimism within the crypto community, with many viewing it as a major stride towards mainstream adoption. The integration allows Rakuten Wallet users in Japan to seamlessly convert their extensive loyalty points into XRP, alongside enabling XRP spot trading and its use as a payment method.

This initiative represents one of the largest retail deployments of XRP to date, as noted by Ripple's development arm, RippleX. Rakuten Wallet's move provides XRP with exposure to a massive consumer base, including 44 million active Rakuten Pay users. The broader Rakuten ecosystem boasts over 3 trillion loyalty points in circulation, equivalent to an astounding $23 billion, all now redeemable for XRP. This means users can convert their points, load them into digital wallets, and execute real-world retail payments in physical stores using QR codes, significantly boosting XRP's everyday utility and reinforcing the XRPL network.

The excitement surrounding this integration is palpable, positioning XRP for broader adoption and potentially driving its value upwards. Social sentiment around XRP has surged dramatically, reaching one of its highest levels in the past two years, as revealed by Santiment data on April 30. This strong bullish sentiment within the crypto community reflects the anticipation for a potential major price breakout for XRP in the aftermath of such a significant move.

Despite the sudden spike in social sentiment, the immediate price movements of XRP have not yet reflected this enthusiasm. CoinMarketCap data indicated that XRP had slumped by approximately 2.29% over the last 24 hours, trading at $1.37 at the time of writing. While this divergence between social metrics and trading price may initially seem surprising, it is important to understand that such social enthusiasm often fuels immediate "Fear Of Missing Out" (FOMO), with the actual, more substantial impact on price typically materializing later, once initial hype settles and real-world utility begins to demonstrably influence demand.

To incentivize early engagement, Rakuten Wallet is actively running a promotional campaign. Users who purchase 30,000 yen or more of XRP will automatically receive a reward of 500 yen worth of XRP. For those who purchase 100,000 yen or more, the reward is upgraded to 1,500 yen worth of XRP. This new integration is currently live on mobile as an "Android Early Release," with an iOS version of the app update officially confirmed for future release by Rakuten Wallet.
