Wizkid Crowned Apple Music's Top Nigerian Artiste of 2025!
Apple Music has officially released its 2025 year-end charts for Nigeria, showcasing the top-performing artistes, albums, and songs that captivated audiences throughout the year. The announcement, shared on Friday, highlights the continued dominance of Afrobeats stars across the platform's extensive rankings.
Ahmed "Asake" Ololade and Ayodeji "Wizkid" Balogun were celebrated as Apple Music's overall top-performing artistes for 2025. Specifically within Nigeria's "Top Artists" category, Wizkid claimed the top spot, followed by Burna Boy, Asake, Seyi Vibez, and BNXN, illustrating a vibrant and highly competitive music landscape.
Wizkid's acclaimed project, "Morayo," originally released in 2024, was distinguished as the "Album of the Year." This influential album featured an impressive roster of international collaborators, including Jazmine Sullivan, Brent Faiyaz, Tiakola, and Asake, contributing significantly to its widespread appeal and critical success.
Following closely in the album rankings was Davido's "5ive," a comprehensive 17-track album launched in April 2025. "5ive" showcased collaborations with a blend of international and Nigerian talents, such as Chris Brown, Victoria Monét, Becky G, Omah Lay, and Victony. Also highly ranked was Asake's "Lungu Boy," a 13-track album from 2024. "Lungu Boy" garnered attention for its star-studded lineup, featuring artistes like Wizkid, Travis Scott, Stormzy, Central Cee, and Ludmilla, and was praised for its innovative fusion of Afrobeats with diverse global sounds.
Further enriching the album charts were BNXN's "Captain" and Burna Boy's "No Sign of Weakness," both released in 2025. Burna Boy's project notably featured a powerful array of international collaborators, including Travis Scott, Mick Jagger, Stromae, and Shaboozey, reinforcing the global impact of Nigerian music.
The "Top Songs" chart for 2025 saw Asake's "Why Love" secure the number one position. Other leading tracks included Wizkid's "Kese (Dance)," Davido featuring ODUMODUBLVCK and Chike with "Funds," the collaborative effort "MMS" by Asake and Wizkid, and Davido featuring Omah Lay with "With You."
Apple Music underscored that the past year was marked by a prolific output of new music from many of Africa's biggest stars, including Burna Boy, Davido, Asake, DJ Maphorisa, Kabza De Small, Black Sherif, and MOLIY. The "Africa to the World" narrative gained further momentum, with African music — encompassing genres like Afrobeats, Amapiano, 3 Step, and Bongo Flava — increasingly dominating global charts, dancefloors, and major festivals.
The statement further highlighted the widespread influence of artists across various African regions, from Nigerian luminaries Rema, Ayra Starr, and Burna Boy, to South African sensations Tyla and DJ Maphorisa, Ghana's finest like Stonebwoy and Black Sherif, and emerging East African talents such as Joshua Baraka and Phina. Apple Music proudly affirmed its role in capturing the vibrant heartbeat of Africa throughout 2025, from bustling cities like Joburg and Lagos to Nairobi and Accra.
