Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has publicly stated that he anticipates being the primary target of political repercussions if President Bola Tinubu is defeated in the 2027 presidential election by either former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) or the Labour Party's Peter Obi. Wike conveyed this during a media interaction in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, emphasizing that his vocal support for Tinubu's re-election bid has positioned him as a clear target for the opposition.

Despite acknowledging the inherent risks associated with his prominent political stance, Wike affirmed that he harbors no regrets about his unwavering backing for President Tinubu. He explicitly stated, "I will be the first politician that I think they will come after. I will be the first politician. I know they will come for my head."

The minister reiterated his singular focus on ensuring Tinubu's victory, irrespective of any personal political fallout. He articulated that his commitment to the President's re-election campaign consumes his thoughts consistently, remarking, "Each day I sleep, I am thinking about the president’s reelection. When I am eating, I think about the president’s reelection. Everything I am doing now is about the president’s reelection."

He maintained that such backlash leaves him unbothered, stating, "I don’t see where anybody in this country today has been called names the way my name has been. I am not bothered about people who say their own thing. My business is, like I said, I am going to support Mr President."
