'The Mummy 4' Confirms Brendan Fraser & Rachel Weisz Return After Two Decades

Universal Pictures has officially confirmed the return of Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz for the highly anticipated The Mummy 4, set to premiere on May 19, 2028, nearly three decades after the 1999 original.

The new film promises to pick up the story of Rick O’Connell and Evelyn Carnahan, while ignoring the 2008 Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.

The sequel will be directed by horror filmmaking collective Radio Silence, known for 2024's Abigail, with a screenplay by David Coggeshall, the writer behind Orphan: First Kill. Specific plot details remain under wraps, but it is confirmed to follow the continuity of the first two films.

The 1999 original, The Mummy, introduced audiences to Evelyn, Rick, and Jonathan as they awakened the ancient Egyptian priest Imhotep. Together with Ardeth Bey, they raced to stop Imhotep before he could wield godlike powers.

In The Mummy Returns (2001), Rick and Evelyn are married with a young son, Alex. The family faces a new threat from Imhotep and the resurrected Scorpion King, continuing the franchise’s mix of adventure, fantasy, and action.

This new installment is distinct from New Line Cinema's 2028 reboot, directed by Lee Cronin, starring Jack Reynor, Laia Costa, and May Calamawy. Fans are encouraged to follow updates for the Fraser-Weisz version, which promises to revive the original franchise’s spirit.
