Uganda's President Museveni Unleashes 'Yoweri' Album, Billions Committed to Creative Boom!
President Yoweri Museveni, accompanied by the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Museveni, officially launched the Yoweri Music Album at Speke Resort Munyonyo in Kampala. This significant event was meticulously organized by the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF), led by its head, Edrisa Musuza, widely recognized as Eddy Kenzo.
During the launch, President Museveni extended his gratitude to Eddy Kenzo and the Minister of State for Mineral Development, Phiona Nyamutoro, for their efforts in organizing the creative industry. He articulated the government's stance, noting that while it may not be able to address every need, it is committed to contributing to the industry's growth. The President expressed particular delight regarding the album's diverse nature, highlighting that it features songs in various indigenous languages, thereby representing all regions of Uganda.
President Museveni further elaborated on the NRM government's priorities, explaining that it initially focused on fundamental aspects such as health and peace. He asserted that the creative industry is currently flourishing precisely because of the stability and robust healthcare system that the government has diligently established. Museveni emphasized that the sector was not overlooked, but rather, with the nation's foundational elements now stabilized, the government is poised to offer its full backing. He declared, "I am happy for the indigenous songs; the music is very good, I like it. This is a gold mine, and I shall support it." The President further assured musicians of enhanced government support for the creative industry following the upcoming elections, indicating a willingness to commit substantial one-time investments, potentially in the range of "20 or 30 billion."
Eddy Kenzo conveyed his profound gratitude to President Museveni for gracing the event, explaining that the album was conceived as a token of appreciation. He underscored the critical importance of peace for the creative industry's prosperity, a condition he credited President Museveni for ensuring. Kenzo lauded the President as "the most hardworking human being I have ever seen," commending his tireless dedication to meetings and transformative initiatives aimed at guaranteeing peace and stability across Uganda. Reflecting on his own journey, Kenzo thanked the President for providing a platform for all Ugandans to excel, noting that despite his origins as a former street child with limited formal education, he successfully built a career through his talent. He also reassured the President that the financial support extended to the Uganda National Musicians Federation has been effectively utilized, citing the establishment of regional studios, the creation of common user facilities, and the strengthening of their SACCO, all designed to benefit musicians nationwide.
The album launch attracted a distinguished audience, including cabinet ministers, Members of Parliament, prominent music promoters, comedians, various artists, and other key stakeholders within Uganda's creative industry.
