Uganda's Flight Freedom: New 'Travel By Momo' Platform Ends Visa Card Woes

Ugandans can now conveniently search for and book flights directly through the MoMo app, utilizing their mobile money accounts for payments. This innovative service, known as Travel by MoMo, provides a crucial alternative to traditional bank cards for online travel transactions, making flight bookings more accessible to a wider demographic.

Travel by MoMo allows users to select their desired flights and complete payments directly from their mobile money wallets, eliminating the need for international payment cards like Visa or Mastercard. This is particularly beneficial for travelers who may not possess such cards or have faced challenges with declined transactions when attempting to pay on foreign travel websites. Furthermore, the service enables payments in Ugandan shillings, helping users avoid unexpected foreign currency conversion charges often associated with international online transactions.

The service is seamlessly integrated into the MoMo app, empowering customers to arrange their entire journey from their phones. This bypasses the need to visit physical travel agents or manage separate payments via bank cards. The booking process is straightforward: users simply open the MoMo app, navigate to 'Lifestyle' on the home page, and tap 'Travel'. They then input their departure and destination cities, select their travel dates, and choose a suitable flight. Payment is finalized directly through the mobile money wallet using the customer's PIN, after which the electronic ticket is promptly delivered to their phone.

Beyond individual bookings, Travel by MoMo also facilitates arranging travel for other individuals, including family members or employees traveling for work. This feature offers a convenient solution for businesses to organize staff travel and for individuals to book trips for relatives, all without requiring the recipients to have their own payment cards.
