Uganda's Bobi Wine Stuns Nation With Statement From Undisclosed 'Safe Location'

Ugandan Presidential candidate Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert, widely known as Bobi Wine, released a video message on X detailing a difficult night at his home in Magere. He reported that his residence was raided by the military and police, who cut off power and some CCTV cameras. Helicopters were also observed hovering over the property during the incident.
Bobi Wine confirmed that he managed to escape from the raid, but stated that his wife and other family members remain under house arrest. He acknowledged being sought by authorities and is actively trying to ensure his safety. He clarified that widespread concern and speculation about his whereabouts arose due to the commotion at his house, restricted access, and a nationwide internet shutdown, leading neighbors to initially believe he had been abducted.
In his statement, Bobi Wine reiterated his complete rejection of what he termed "fake results" being announced by Byabakama. He cited numerous reasons for this rejection, including widespread ballot stuffing, the military's takeover of the election process, the detention of his party's leaders and polling officials, and various other electoral offenses, asserting that the declared results have no legitimate backing.
He further condemned the murder of numerous citizens who had attempted to peacefully protest against what he described as "broad daylight thuggery." Bobi Wine emphasized the right of the Ugandan people to protest in defense of their sovereign right to choose their government, denouncing the "criminality" being witnessed. He also highlighted the blatant theft of the presidential election and the use of fraudulent techniques to usurp the will of the people in various constituencies, particularly targeting National Unity Platform (NUP) candidates even when they possessed clear evidence of their victories. Despite these challenges, he expressed strong conviction that the people of Uganda will ultimately prevail.
