Tragedy Strikes: Jackson Browne's Son Ethan Browne Dies at 52

Singer-songwriter Jackson Browne is experiencing deep sorrow following the passing of his son, Ethan Browne, who died on November 25, 2025, at the age of 52. The somber news was shared by Browne himself on Wednesday, November 26, in a Facebook post. In his statement, Browne conveyed, "It is with deep sorrow that we share that on the morning of November 25, 2025, Ethan Browne, the son of Jackson Browne and Phyllis Major, was found unresponsive in his home and has passed away. We ask for privacy and respect for the family during this difficult time. No further details are available at this moment."
Ethan Browne, born on November 2, 1973, led a multifaceted life, making his mark as a model, musician, and actor. On the silver screen, he held roles in notable films such as *Raising Helen*, where he appeared alongside actress and singer Kate Hudson, and *Hackers*. His television credits included the series *Birds of Prey*. As a musician, Ethan collaborated with Cat Colbert to form the duo Alain Zane. Together, they released their album *Right Before Your Eyes* in 2022 and produced songs including "CA State of Mind" and "Kite." A unique moment in his early life saw Ethan appear with his father on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine in 1974, just six months after his birth.
Ethan was the son of Jackson Browne and his first wife, Phyllis Major. Jackson Browne and Phyllis Major were married in 1975. Tragically, the following year, Major passed away at the age of 30 due to an overdose. Jackson Browne later married Lynne Sweeney in 1981, and they welcomed another son, Ryan, in 1982, before divorcing in 1983.
Jackson Browne is a highly acclaimed artist, boasting an impressive career that includes eight Grammy nominations. His iconic 1977 album, *Running on Empty*, received an overall album of the year Grammy nomination. Over the years, Browne has garnered various Grammy nods, including for Best Americana Album for *Downhill From Everywhere* and Best Rock Vocal Performance, Male, for his song "Boulevard." Beyond his own performances, Browne is a celebrated songwriter, with his compositions recorded by renowned artists such as the Eagles and Nico.
His significant contributions to music have been recognized with prestigious inductions. In 2004, Bruce Springsteen inducted Jackson Browne into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Just three years later, he was also inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. On the charts, Browne achieved commercial success with his 1980 album *Hold Out* reaching the top of the all-genre Billboard 200. He also secured top five positions on the same chart with *The Pretender* (1976) and *Running on Empty* (1977). His singles "Doctor My Eyes" (1972) and "Somebody’s Baby" (1982) both reached the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100, with "Somebody’s Baby" notably featuring on the soundtrack for the 1982 film *Fast Times at Ridgemont High*.
