Tragedy Strikes: Fan Dies During Asake Concert Stampede in Nairobi, Singer Mourns

Nigerian singer Asake, born Ahmed Ololade, expressed profound sorrow following the death of a fan during his concert at Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi on December 20. The victim, 20-year-old Karen Lojore, reportedly collapsed amidst a stampede caused by severe overcrowding and long delays at the stadium gates, highlighting a critical lack of crowd control.
Paramedics at the scene attempted emergency resuscitation before rushing Ms. Lojore to Nairobi West Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Her body was later moved to the City Mortuary as authorities launched investigations into the incident. Asake shared his devastation on social media: "I am devastated by the tragic incident that took place at the festival on Dec 20th in Nairobi. My heart goes out to the family, friends, and loved ones of Karen Lojore, and I pledge to support and do my best to understand what happened. Those responsible should be held accountable."
Eyewitnesses described chaos outside the stadium, including long queues, narrow entry points, and police presence, which they said worsened panic and shoving among concert-goers. Several people were reportedly shouting "I can't breathe" as the crowd surged forward, illustrating the severe pressure endured by attendees. Karen’s mother publicly demanded answers: "Karen why? You had that ticket. What happened to my child? Who is going to answer my questions? I want justice for my child."
Tukutane Entertainment, the concert organizers, confirmed the incident in a statement, pledging full cooperation with emergency services and authorities to determine the cause. They appealed to the public to respect the privacy of the grieving family while investigations continue. Asake, who experienced a similar crowd crush at a London concert in 2022, expressed sorrow: "Music has always been my way of sharing love and joy, and it breaks my heart that anyone had to experience such loss. My thoughts are with everyone grieving, and I pray that Karen rests in peace. God bless Kenya."
The tragedy has reignited concerns over crowd management and overall event safety at large-scale Nairobi concerts. Questions are now being raised about gate management protocols, barrier adequacy, and emergency service preparedness, emphasizing the urgent need for improved safety measures for attendees at major events.
