Tinubu Gets Urgent Security Briefing From DSS DG Amid Soaring Attacks, Abductions

President Bola Tinubu recently received a critical update on Nigeria's escalating security situation from the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Mr. Tosin Adeola Ajayi. This briefing, held at the State House in Abuja, is part of an ongoing national security review necessitated by a series of violent incidents across the country.
The urgent review follows multiple security breaches, most notably the abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi and Niger States. Reports indicate that dozens of students were abducted from a secondary school in Maga, Kebbi State, and later, over 300 students and 12 staff were kidnapped from St. Mary’s school in Papiri community of Agwara Local Government Area, Niger State. Adding to the crisis was a deadly attack on worshippers at a church in Kwara State.
In response to these grave threats, the federal government has taken decisive action, ordering the immediate shutdown of all unity colleges nationwide. Furthermore, President Tinubu cancelled his participation at the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg, opting to remain in Nigeria to personally coordinate the government's comprehensive response to the escalating crisis.
The pervasive insecurity has also led to school closures in several states. Following the federal directive, states such as Kwara, Plateau, Katsina, Niger, and Taraba have implemented measures, with Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas specifically directing all public and private schools to deboard their students immediately to ensure their safety. The Presidency has affirmed that further updates on security measures will be communicated as intensified efforts are made to protect citizens and restore stability across the nation.
