The Office Legacy Continues! NBC's Official Successor Lands on New Streamer!

NBC has a rich history of airing immensely popular sitcoms, but few have achieved the global impact and lasting legacy of "The Office." This 2005 U.S. adaptation of the BBC comedy, created by Ricky Gervais, ran for nine seasons and became a cultural phenomenon. It propelled many of its stars, including Steve Carell and John Krasinski, to superstardom and was instrumental in popularizing and revolutionizing the mockumentary format for comedies, influencing subsequent hits like "Parks and Recreation," "Abbott Elementary," and "What We Do in the Shadows."
Building on this legacy, NBC recently debuted another program in the same mockumentary style that has been quietly gaining significant traction: "St. Denis Medical." Launched in 2024, this new series transports the mockumentary format to the chaotic environment of a severely underfunded and understaffed Oregon hospital. The show delves into the lives of the doctors and nurses who are forced to navigate the challenges of the modern medical landscape, tackling these high-stakes situations with a distinct brand of hilarity as they strive to maintain their sanity with limited resources.
At the heart of "St. Denis Medical" is Joyce (Wendi McLendon-Covey), who harbors ambitious visions for the St. Denis Medical Center, even though her seasoned staff, including the veteran Dr. Ron (David Alan Grier) who has witnessed everything imaginable, recognize her dreams as little more than a pipe dream. Despite the everyday office antics and the overwhelming difficulties, the team consistently endeavors to ensure every patient who walks through their doors feels genuinely cared for. The ensemble cast also features Allison Tolman, Josh Lawson, Mekki Leeper, Kahyun Kim, and Kaliko Kauahi, adding to the eclectic mix of characters.
The series was brought to life by co-creators Eric Ledgin and Justin Spitzer, the mastermind behind "Superstore." Their combined creative efforts have resonated strongly with audiences, leading to the show's renewal for a second season. "St. Denis Medical" proudly stands as NBC's most-watched new series of the 2024/2025 season, boasting an impressive 21.4 million viewers across all platforms.
The critical and audience reception for "St. Denis Medical" has been overwhelmingly positive. Its inaugural season was widely acclaimed as one of the best new comedies on television, securing an 81% approval rating from critics and a 76% score from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. Collider's Kelcie Mattson awarded Season 1 an 8/10, noting that while the series was still carving out its unique identity within the mockumentary genre, it was "a series secure in its identity, and all signs currently point to it sustaining that momentum. Much like the upstart hospital it's named after, St. Denis Medical shows great promise." Season 2 has continued to receive similar praise and streaming success, with new episodes currently airing every Monday on NBC.
For those who have yet to discover this heartfelt workplace comedy, Netflix subscribers will have the opportunity to catch up on all of Season 1 starting April 1. "St. Denis Medical" is one of two series making the crossover to the streaming giant from the Peacock network, alongside Reba McEntire's "Happy's Place." While new episodes will continue to premiere on NBC, they will subsequently become available exclusively on Peacock the day after their broadcast. This wide availability ensures that more viewers can experience the unique blend of humor and heart that "St. Denis Medical" offers.
