Tame Impala's 'Deadbeat' Dominates Billboard, Securing Six Chart-Topping Debuts

Tame Impala, the acclaimed project of Kevin Parker, has made a resounding return with their first full-length studio album in five years, titled "Deadbeat." The highly anticipated set, released under Columbia Records, has immediately dominated multiple Billboard charts, marking a significant milestone for the artist. The album's release on November 1st saw it debut at No. 1 on six different rankings: Top Rock & Alternative Albums, Top Rock Albums, Top Alternative Albums, Vinyl Albums, and Indie Store Album Sales. Notably, "Deadbeat" also secured Tame Impala's inaugural entry on the Top Dance Albums chart, highlighting its broad appeal and genre-spanning sound.
Beyond its No. 1 placements, "Deadbeat" showcased robust performance across major all-genre charts. It launched impressively at No. 4 on the Billboard 200, solidifying its position as Tame Impala's third project to reach the top five on this prestigious tally. Furthermore, the album landed at No. 2 on both Top Album Sales and Top Current Album Sales, underscoring strong consumer purchasing. Its presence was also felt on streaming platforms, achieving a respectable No. 7 debut on the Top Streaming Albums chart.
The album's commercial success is evident in its first-week figures. "Deadbeat" earned 70,000 equivalent album units in the United States in the week ending October 23rd, according to Luminate. Pure album sales contributed 38,000 to this sum, reflecting individual purchases of physical and digital copies. A significant portion of these pure sales came from vinyl, with 28,000 units sold, setting a new all-time record for Tame Impala in vinyl sales. The album, which was announced in September, draws inspiration from the vibrant Western Australia rave scene, as revealed in a press statement at the time.
Individual tracks from "Deadbeat" also commanded attention across various Billboard charts. On the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart, eight of the album's cuts populated the 25-position ranking, with six of them breaking into the top 10. "Dracula" led this charge, debuting at No. 1 and becoming Tame Impala's first track to achieve this feat. Other notable debuts included "My Old Ways" at No. 3, "No Reply" at No. 5, "Oblivion" at No. 7, "Not My World" at No. 8, and "Afterthought" at No. 10. "End of Summer" and "Ethereal Connection" also charted at No. 11 and No. 12, respectively.
The album's rock and alternative appeal was equally strong, with 11 of its 12 tracks charting on the 50-position Hot Rock & Alternative Songs tally. "Dracula" ascended to a new peak of No. 3 (from No. 7), while "My Old Ways" debuted at No. 8. Other significant entries included "Loser" (rising to No. 13), along with debuts for "No Reply" (No. 17), "Oblivion" (No. 21), "Obsolete" (No. 22), "Piece of Heaven" (No. 23), "Not My World" (No. 24), "Afterthought" (No. 27), "End of Summer" (re-entry at No. 31), and "See You On Monday (You’re Lost)" (No. 36).
Furthermore, "Deadbeat" facilitated Tame Impala's first-ever entries on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100. "Dracula," which had initially debuted in October, vaulted into the top 40 for the first time, rising impressively from No. 59 to No. 33. Joining it were "My Old Ways" and "Loser," which debuted on the Hot 100 at No. 56 and No. 91, respectively. This widespread chart success across multiple genres underscores the impactful and multifaceted return of Tame Impala.
