Super Eagles Star Tolu Arokodare Lays Down Bold Ajax Trophy Gauntlet!
Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare has made a significant impact at Ajax, scoring seven goals and providing two assists in just 10 games. Beyond his impressive individual form, Arokodare is determined to win trophies with Ajax, also expressing profound appreciation for the warm reception from fans and the club.
The Super Eagles striker, Tolu Arokodare has made an immediate and significant impact at Ajax since his loan move from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The 25-year-old forward has been in fine form, contributing seven goals and two assists in just 10 appearances across all competitions.
His recent goal came in Saturday’s 1-1 Eredivisie league draw against NEC Nijmegen, where he broke the deadlock in the seventh minute.
Arokodare's celebration was a poignant tribute to his injured teammate, Kasper Dolberg, who is currently recovering from an ACL injury.
However, despite Arokodare's individual heroics, Tjaronn Chery equalised from the penalty spot, leading to frustration for the hosts as they dropped two crucial points. Ajax currently occupies 5th position on the Eredivisie table, trailing league leaders Feyenoord by five points.
This is beyond his impressive goal-scoring record, Tolu Arokodare has clearly articulated his ambitious targets for his time with the Dutch giants. In an interview with Footy-Africa, the former Genk striker emphasized that his ambitions extend far beyond personal statistics.
"We’re going to try to win everything that’s there to win, everything that we can win, every competition we’re playing in and participating in," the Nigerian stated.
He further elaborated on the immense expectations that come with representing a club of Ajax's stature, both for the team and for individual players.
"That’s the plan, that’s the aim, that’s the point of our season. We’re Ajax, so we always want to be the best, be number one.
Every game we play and every competition we’re participating in, we’re trying to win it," Arokodare added, highlighting the club's unwavering pursuit of excellence.
These aspirations align with Ajax's broader goal of re-establishing themselves at the pinnacle of Dutch football, following a fifth-place finish in the Eredivisie last season.
Arokodare's arrival at Ajax in July followed a challenging period in England, where a difficult spell at Wolves saw him sidelined from training due to an ongoing transfer saga.
The loan agreement with Ajax, which includes an option to make the deal permanent, provided him with a much-needed opportunity to express his talent on a new stage.
While his rapid goalscoring return has offered considerable encouragement, the recent draw against NEC serves as a reminder that individual contributions, while vital, do not always translate directly into team victories.
Off the field, Arokodare has found a warm and supportive environment at Ajax. He spoke glowingly about the reception he has received from the fans and the overall experience at his new club.
"It’s been pretty good. It’s been lovely, it’s been amazing," he continued, expressing his appreciation for the "amazing" Dutch people, his "great" teammates, and the "outstanding" club.
He added, "I love it. I love the people. I love the style of football. I love the fans so much. They’re very, very supportive. They show me so much love on the pitch and outside the pitch, like in my messages, in my DMs and everything I see, and I appreciate the love. So it’s been amazing," Arokodare concluded.
With his current tally of seven goals across all competitions this season, the prolific striker is determined to maintain his impressive form and play a key role in helping Ajax transform their ambitions into tangible trophies.
