Shockwaves Hit Kaduna South as Senator Katung Defects to APC!

Senator Sunday Marshall Katung, representing Kaduna South, has formally announced his resignation from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and his subsequent defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). This significant political development was revealed in a statement issued to journalists on Saturday in Abuja, where Senator Katung provided insights into the reasons behind his decision.
The Senator clarified that his choice to leave the PDP was a result of "deep consideration and wide consultations" conducted with various political stakeholders, his loyal supporters, and the constituents within his Kaduna South senatorial district. He emphasized that this decision, though carefully weighed, was not undertaken lightly. Senator Katung reflected on his consistent commitment over the years to the principles of democracy, good governance, and public service, ideals he acknowledged the PDP had long represented. However, he stated that "evolving political realities within our nation and my constituency have necessitated a re-evaluation of the platform best suited to advance the aspirations and welfare of my people."
Explaining his move to the APC, Senator Katung expressed his belief that the ruling party’s "current direction and leadership" offered "renewed hope for inclusiveness, stability, and sustainable development." He further clarified that his defection was fundamentally driven by a strong desire to serve his constituents and the nation more effectively. Despite his departure, Senator Katung conveyed his high regard for the friendships, collaborations, and experiences shared with his former colleagues and leaders within the PDP. He also expressed profound gratitude for the opportunities the party had provided him over the years and extended his best wishes for its continued success in future endeavors.
