Shocking Twist! Tarantino Pens Final Film Script, But Shelves It to 'Live a Little'
Filmmaker Quentin Tarantino has finished the script for his tenth and final feature film but will defer its production to focus on his new stage play, “The Popinjay Cavalier.” The play, starring Sacha Baron Cohen, is set to open in London’s West End next March, after which Tarantino plans to take time off before revisiting his filmmaking career.
Quentin Tarantino has consistently stated his intention to retire after directing his tenth feature film. While he has now completed the script for this final cinematic project, the acclaimed director has confirmed that its production will be put on hold until after the run of his newly opened stage play, titled “The Popinjay Cavalier.” Tarantino shared these details during a recent appearance on “The Graham Norton Show,” marking his first time on the program in over a decade. He was joined by fellow guests Ellen DeGeneres, Colin Farrell, and Gemma Chan.
During the interview, Tarantino elaborated on his decision to delay his final film, explaining, “I’ve written a script that I really like, but I want to do the play and see who I am; then I’ll then go back and spend time with my family and live a little and then see what I want to do.” He also offered further insights into “The Popinjay Cavalier,” revealing that the project initially began as a screenplay before he realized “it really worked as a play.” Tarantino expressed his enthusiasm, describing the theatrical production as something he believes “will be thrilling.”
“The Popinjay Cavalier,” characterized as a “swashbuckling comedy” and starring Sacha Baron Cohen, is scheduled to open at London’s Phoenix Theatre next March, with preview performances commencing in late February. The play is set for a limited engagement of three months, concluding its run on June 13. When the show was initially announced, Tarantino conveyed his excitement in a statement, saying, “I’m keen with anticipation to give the West End a great night out.”
Tarantino’s most recent film release remains “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” which premiered in 2019. This critically acclaimed movie featured a stellar cast including Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio, Margot Robbie, and Margaret Qualley, among others. The film garnered significant recognition, with Brad Pitt winning the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor, and Barbara Ling and Nancy Haigh receiving Oscars for Best Production Design. Tarantino himself earned nominations for both Best Picture and Best Director, while Leonardo DiCaprio was nominated for Best Actor.
