Shocking Twist: Anthony Edwards Ruled Ineligible for Major NBA Awards!

Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards has been ruled ineligible for NBA postseason awards this season, as he will not meet the league's mandatory 65-game minimum. The decision came after he was listed out for Thursday night's game against the Detroit Pistons due to a combination of a right knee injury and an illness. Edwards has participated in 59 games to date, but only 58 of these appearances are officially counted towards the league's eligibility record. With only six regular-season games remaining for the Timberwolves, it is mathematically impossible for him to reach the required threshold.
Edwards' absence in Detroit followed his return to play against the Dallas Mavericks, where he scored 17 points in 23 minutes. This marked his first game back after missing six consecutive outings due to the aforementioned right knee ailment. Following the Timberwolves' 113-108 loss to the Pistons, head coach Chris Finch clarified that it was an illness, not his knee injury, that ultimately kept Edwards off the court for that specific game.
This development is significant for the four-time All-Star and two-time all-league guard, who has demonstrated consistent high-level performance throughout his career. Edwards finished seventh in NBA MVP voting in each of the past two seasons, underscoring his impact on the league. While he is currently averaging a career-high 29.3 points, this season marks a departure from his previous five years in the NBA, during which he consistently played 70 or more games.
